Hi, I’m @chrisbaskind

Thanks for looking at my Twitter profile. My name is Chris Baskind. I’m a writer, primarily concerned with the environment and simpler living. I’m a web developer, creating reader and publisher-friendly sites on the WordPress platform. I’m an advocate of carfree transportation, relying entirely on bicycles since June, 2009. Most of my tweets are about these topics.

Three years ago, I launched Lighter Footstep, a pioneering website focused on greener, healthier, more affordable living. We were recently acquired by the Mother Nature Network (MNN).

I currently blog at More Minimal, a site dedicated to downsizing our lives — while upsizing happiness.

How I use Twitter

I try not to be too noisy on Twitter, primarily using the service to share and discuss links that interest me. You might find me being chatty after business hours, and I pay close attention to @Replies.

Having been around Twitter since almost the beginning, I follow (and am followed by) a fair number of people. No mortal can really make sense of more than a few hundred active tweeple, so I use an extensive set of lists to filter the stream. Some lists are public, but most aren’t. They’re organized by groups of friends, interests — even the time of day.

Want me to follow you?

Unless you’re just chasing a follower count (and I don’t follow a lot of people like that), what you really want is to get on one of my attention lists. In any case, I generally follow people who engage me. So shoot me a reply, retweet something, or share a cool link. It will be great getting to know you.

The main advantage to having someone follow you is the ability to send them DMs. I personally believe that for all of Twitter’s usefulness, their DM inbox is an unwelcome throwback to the 1990s. I hardly use the thing. No worries: You can contact me directly right now just by following this link.

There’s not much else to say about Twitter that can’t be expressed in 140 characters or less. Still want to follow me? Step this way to my Twitter profile. Tweet-tweet!
